This very fine-grained, homeogranular marble typically black, or dark gray with sporadic millimeter-sized fossil remains, originates from the wadi Hammamat on the Red Sea, in the center of the Eastern Desert of Egypt. Called Lapis Basanites by the Romans Bashanite derives from the Egyptian bhn, it was used as an ornamental stone by the Egyptians and later by the Romans for the creation of statues and ornamental decorations. The basilica of San Marco in Venice is a splendid example of the use of this stone. Its elegance lends itself to refined combinations, we recommend Franciacorta wines and excellent caviar to be tasted in an exclusive cigar lounge.
